🔧 Key Responsibilities – What You Will Do in This Role
As an Artisan Aid (Fitter), your daily tasks will include a wide range of high-impact technical and operational duties such as:
Equipment Support & Maintenance
Assist qualified Artisans with the installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment and components in accordance with engineering standards, safety protocols, and operational requirements.
Provide hands-on support for planned mechanical maintenance, including lubrication, shaft alignment, fittings, inspections, and the replacement of worn components.
Fault Identification & Reporting
Identify mechanical abnormalities or equipment faults timeously and escalate them to the Artisan for corrective action.
Contribute to early detection of potential equipment failures to prevent production losses.
Operational Support
Report daily section activities, maintenance progress, and equipment status to the Artisan or Supervisor to ensure accurate communication and efficient workflow.
Participate in section walkabouts, inspections, and condition monitoring to enhance equipment reliability.
Safety & Compliance
Assist in executing both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks, always complying with mine health and safety standards.
Support the Artisan in conducting safe work procedures, risk assessments, and job observations.
General Mechanical Assistance
Provide manual labour support in confined, challenging, or physically demanding environments.
Ensure tools, components, and mechanical equipment are cleaned, stored properly, and well maintained.
👤 About You – What You Need to Qualify
We are looking for a reliable, safety-conscious, and enthusiastic individual who meets the following criteria:
Grade 12 (Matric) with passes in relevant technical subjects.
Full N2 Certificate with trade theory in Fitting or Mechanical studies.
Valid Aider Certificate applicable to a mining environment.
Previous experience as an Artisan Aid within a mining or plant setting will be a strong advantage.
Must be medically fit to perform duties in both surface and underground conditions as required by mining standards.
Ability to follow instructions carefully, communicate effectively, and perform physically demanding tasks.
A strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and operational discipline.
