Job Title: History & English GED Teacher & Supervisor
Location: Fish Hoek, Cape Town, South Africa
Reporting To: Principal
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced educator to take on a role as History & English GED High School Teacher and Supervisor in a small high school in Fish Hoek. This role requires both strong teaching skills and the ability to manage student welfare, disciplinary matters, and staff support. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring students’ academic growth and maintaining a positive school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching Duties (GED – History & English)
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with the GED curriculum, covering Social Studies and Reasoning through Language Arts.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students, including one-on-one tutoring where necessary.
- Evaluate student performance through assignments, quizzes, and mock GED tests, providing constructive feedback to improve learning outcomes.
- Create a positive, supportive, and disciplined learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Identify academic challenges faced by students and implement strategies to support their progress.
- Ensure students are thoroughly prepared for GED examinations, including test-taking strategies and time management techniques.
Supervisory Duties
- Monitor student behaviour to ensure adherence to school rules and disciplinary standards.
- Address minor behavioural concerns directly and escalate serious issues to the appropriate authority.
- Conduct regular walkthroughs of classrooms, and school grounds to ensure student safety and compliance.
- Manage student conflict resolution and provide guidance to promote positive behaviour.
- Support students and teachers in both the Cambridge International Curriculum and GED program by ensuring students are on track with their learning milestones.
- Assist teachers in identifying students requiring additional academic support and coordinate intervention strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of disciplinary actions, attendance, and incident reports.
- Assisting in managing classroom allocations, duty rosters, and organizing school open days or parent-teacher meetings.
- Ensure school security protocols are followed, including visitor management and emergency procedures.
- Respond promptly to incidents, accidents, or emergencies on school premises.
- Preparation of GED material and guides for students.
- Proficiency in using computer systems for administrative tasks.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
- Teaching qualification such as PGCE, SACE registration, or equivalent would be advantageous.
- Proven experience teaching the GED curriculum or a similar educational program.
- Strong subject knowledge in History and English.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a school environment, tutoring, youth development, or a related role.
- Experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Familiarity with both the Cambridge International Curriculum and GED program would be advantageous.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Working Conditions
- Full-time role with standard school hours of 8am to 2pm with occasional evening and weekend duties for parent meetings or school open day events.
