About the Role
As a Year 1 Apprentice, you will support our workshop team in delivering technical excellence. Under the direct supervision of the Service Manager and senior technicians, you will learn to diagnose, repair, maintain, and service trucks and buses in alignment with Daimler and Cargo Motors standards.
The apprenticeship is structured to build your foundational technical knowledge while exposing you to real-world scenarios, advanced diagnostic systems, and customer-service expectations. Detailed Job Responsibilities

- Vehicle Diagnosis & Servicing Support
Conduct initial diagnostics to identify mechanical or electrical faults.
Make use of modern diagnostic equipment to assist in accurate troubleshooting.
Provide clear and organized diagnostic reports that help senior technicians and Service Advisors understand the problem.
Ensure all diagnostics align with DCSA (Daimler Commercial South Africa) policies.
- Repair & Maintenance Duties
Assist in planning and executing repairs according to dealer/distributor specifications.
Learn and apply best-practice repair techniques, always maintaining safety and efficiency.
Undertake scheduled servicing tasks, ensuring each vehicle leaves the workshop in optimal condition.
Support breakdown response teams when required, identifying faults and helping restore vehicle function.
- Quality Control & Workshop Standards
Maintain an exceptionally clean and organized work area.
Work carefully to ensure no damage occurs to customer vehicles.
Ensure all parts used are correctly logged, and unused parts are returned to stock.
Participate in procedures aimed at reducing vehicle comebacks, enhancing overall workshop quality.
Keep overalls, tools, and equipment tidy and well-maintained.
- Customer Support & Communication
When required, assist in explaining repair findings to Service Advisors or customers.
Ensure all customer vehicles are returned in neat, clean condition.
Follow internal communication processes so customers remain well-informed.
- Documentation & Reporting
Complete all company documentation, including:
Job cards
Diagnostic printouts
Service reports
Time clocking entries
Prepare accurate technical reports when requested.
Contribute to promotional or technical campaigns when required.
- Technical Growth, Development & Training
Attend all scheduled Daimler and Cargo Motors training programmes.
Acquire deep understanding of:
diesel engine systems
electrical systems
hydraulic operations
drivetrain mechanisms
Provide diagnostic support to mechanics by using advanced systems and tools.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for the Year 1 Apprentice position, you must meet the following criteria:
Academic Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric) with Maths and Physical Science
N2 Certificate with the following subjects:
Engineering Science
Technical Drawing
Mathematics
Motor Trade Theory
