⭐ About the Role – Apprentice / Contract Plumber
This position offers hands-on fieldwork, exposure to complex plumbing systems, and opportunities for career development within a fast-growing company. As part of the Top Building technical division, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and inspecting plumbing systems while ensuring full compliance with national safety regulations and professional standards.
The role requires strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a professional maintenance team. You will be attending client sites, conducting repairs, assessing damage claims, and ensuring that plumbing installations meet South African building and safety codes.
🔧 Key Duties & Responsibilities
As a Contract Plumber at Top Building, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Plumbing Installations & Repairs
Install, maintain, and repair pipes, valves, water heaters, geysers, drainage systems, and plumbing fixtures in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
Diagnose plumbing faults quickly and accurately using both manual inspection and technical diagnostic tools.
Repair burst pipes, leaks, blocked drains, faulty fittings, and damaged plumbing components in accordance with industry standards.
System Inspections & Compliance
Conduct thorough inspections of plumbing and drainage systems to verify compliance with quality, safety, and building regulations.
Prepare detailed reports outlining inspection results, repair recommendations, and required maintenance actions.
Ensure all work meets South African National Standards (SANS 10252 & 10254).
Technical Problem-Solving
Identify plumbing system faults and propose cost-effective, durable, and technically sound solutions.
Provide expert advice to clients regarding system upgrades, preventive maintenance, and energy-efficient plumbing options.
Troubleshoot pressure issues, water quality concerns, drainage inefficiencies, and structural plumbing risks.
Tools, Equipment & Safety
Maintain all plumbing tools and equipment in safe, clean, and fully operational condition.
Follow strict occupational health and safety guidelines when working on ladders, confined spaces, crawl areas, or high-risk environments.
Keep work areas neat, organized, and free of hazards at all times.
Client Communication & Work Reporting
Communicate with clients professionally and clearly before, during, and after each job.
Complete job cards, service reports, and maintenance documentation accurately and timeously.
Provide outstanding customer service to reinforce Top Building’s reputation for reliability and excellence.
📌 Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following essential criteria:
Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification
Valid South African driver’s license
Minimum of 3 years of practical, hands-on plumbing experience
Male applicants between the ages of 20–40 years
Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly
A professional, responsible, and solutions-driven mindset
Ability to work independently without supervision and collaboratively within a team environment
Healthy physical condition and ability to perform manual labour, lifting, and outdoor tasks
