🔧 Purpose of the Role

The Apprentice Millwright will be responsible for assisting qualified artisans with the maintenance, repair, and optimization of machinery and production equipment across the Foundry, Machine Shop, and Rubber Plant.

You will develop expertise in:

Light and heavy current electrical systems

Mechanical machinery maintenance

Industrial automation

Machinery diagnostics & inspections

Machine drawings and technical design

PLC programming fundamentals

This apprenticeship is your gateway to becoming a competent, certified Millwright in one of the most advanced engineering environments in Africa.


🔩 Key Responsibilities

✅ 1. Production & Maintenance Support

Attend and complete all theoretical and practical apprenticeship modules.

Assist artisans with day-to-day maintenance, servicing, and repairs.

Conduct machinery inspections and basic diagnostics.

Support fault-finding activities on electrical and mechanical systems.

Learn and apply the basics of PLC programming and industrial automation.

Contribute to reducing downtime and enhancing operational efficiency.

✅ 2. Engineering Drawings & Technical Design

Learn to interpret engineering machine drawings accurately.

Create sketches and assist with technical reporting.

Understand mechanical components and electrical schematics.

Apply drawing knowledge to real maintenance tasks.

✅ 3. Teamwork, Communication & Collaboration

Work closely with artisans, foremen, planners, production teams, and supervisors.

Participate in toolbox talks and technical briefings.

Practice collaborative problem-solving and knowledge sharing.

Give and receive feedback constructively.

✅ 4. Continuous Learning & Technical Growth

Gain exposure to automation, production lines, and real industrial operations.

Apply classroom knowledge directly to plant machinery.

Build practical skillsets across multiple engineering disciplines.

Follow procedures, use PPE correctly, and promote a safe work environment.

Report hazards proactively and participate in safety meetings.


🎓 Minimum Requirements

Educational Requirements

Grade 12 / Matric with:
✅ Mathematics (passed)
✅ Physical Science (passed)

A technical qualification such as N5 or N6 (Engineering) will be a strong advantage.

Work Experience

(Advantageous but not required)

Exposure to a production, manufacturing, or maintenance environment.

Experience with tools, machines, or technical equipment.
