PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The main purpose of the General Worker – Bread Packer is to support the smooth, efficient, and timely execution of daily production activities. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that bread products are correctly packed, stacked, handled, and dispatched without compromising quality or food safety standards.

This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring that:

All daily production targets are met in full and on time.

KEY OBJECTIVES

  1. Achieve daily production targets in line with the bulk plan and departmental requirements.
  2. Ensure product integrity by handling bread with care, maintaining correct stock rotation, and avoiding unnecessary damage.

  4. Promote safety and compliance within the team by following food safety, health, and operational procedures.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Product Quality and Integrity

Inspect bread for quality before packing to ensure it meets required standards.

Handle products gently to prevent damage, squashing, or contamination.

Ensure correct packaging materials are used and that packaging equipment is operated correctly.

Maintain freshness standards by ensuring products move swiftly through the packing process.

Follow all quality control instructions and report deviations immediately.

  1. Production Floor Operations

Pack bread efficiently according to the production schedule and product type.

Operate basic equipment such as scales, conveyors, and packing tools.

Assist with weighing products to ensure consistency and accurate batch quantities.

Participate in planned maintenance of equipment and report faults to supervisors.

Support the flow of stock from production to packing, and packing to dispatch.

  1. Housekeeping, Hygiene & Food Safety

Maintain exceptional cleanliness in and around the packing area.

Adhere to strict hygiene requirements, including PPE usage, handwashing, and contamination prevention.

Comply with food safety standards, including HACCP, internal audits, and SOPs.

Dispose of waste properly, reduce unnecessary damage and manage repacks responsibly.

Prevent cross-contamination by following correct segregation procedures.

  1. Stacking, Stock Handling & Documentation

Stack crates neatly and safely to avoid damage or accidents.

Pick stock accurately based on dispatch requirements and product specifications.

Ensure documentation—paper trails, labels, batch codes, and stock counts—is completed with absolute accuracy.

Identify damaged stock and follow proper repacking procedures.

Support stock rotation using FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.

  1. Efficiency & Performance Contribution

Achieve the required pace of work without compromising quality.

Assist teammates where needed to maintain consistent output.

Communicate challenges early to prevent disruptions in the production line.

Apply problem-solving skills to address minor operational issues.

Work safely in a fast-moving environment with conveyors, heat, noise, and moving machinery.

Follow all company safety procedures, rules, and protocols.

Comply with PPE requirements including hairnets, aprons, gloves, and protective footwear.

Participate in safety drills, toolbox talks, and refresher training sessions.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Matric / Grade 12 (Compulsory)

Additional training in food safety, production processes, or FMCG will be an advantage.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

1 to 2 years of working experience in the FMCG industry (preferably bakery, food manufacturing, or similar production environment).

Experience working with packing lines, stock handling, or manual labour roles will be beneficial.

Exposure to factory environments involving high temperatures, noise, or dust.


WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
