🔍 Purpose of the Role
To carry out key maintenance, fabrication, and structural repair work on mining equipment, ensuring compliance with MHSA, plant safety standards, and operational efficiency. This role is essential for maintaining the reliability of structural components and mechanical equipment within the plant.
⚙️ Core Responsibilities
🔩 Operational Delivery
Interpret and work from technical drawings to assemble, install, and maintain mechanical plant equipment.
Repair and replace critical plant components: chutes, liners, crushers, screens, conveyor belts, etc.
Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics, and corrective repairs using appropriate tools and testing methods.
Perform risk assessments, secure job cards and permits before commencing work.
Fabricate and install pipes, structures, and custom steelwork to spec using cutting and welding equipment.
Participate in plant shutdowns, executing tasks as per the SOP and work schedule.
Apply root cause analysis to assess recurring breakdowns and propose sustainable solutions.
🧰 Resource & Asset Management
Assess and communicate resource/tool/spare part needs in advance.
Ensure optimal use of equipment and spares while maintaining safety and cost-efficiency.
Identify critical spares and escalate requirements to procurement or maintenance planning teams.
🤝 Stakeholder Engagement
Maintain strong collaboration with Engineering, Operations, and Safety departments.
Communicate equipment conditions and potential hazards to relevant supervisors.
Advise foremen and management on unsafe conditions, ensuring preventative action is taken.
🛡️ Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
Contribute to and apply the plant-specific Risk Management Policy.
Conduct regular inspections and safety awareness sessions.
Enforce adherence to MHSA, Codes of Practice, and company safety protocols.
Participate in emergency drills and blasting operations to reduce risk and ensure preparedness.
🎓 Minimum Qualifications
1.Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
2.N2 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering
3.(Advantageous): National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
4.Boilermaker Trade Certificate – Red Seal or SAQA-verified Trade Certificate
📈 Experience & Requirements
3–5 years of relevant boilermaking or mechanical maintenance experience in a mining/plant environment
Must be medically fit for duty and plant work conditions
