THE ROLE: ARTISAN ELECTRICIAN – PLANT SHIFT OPERATIONS
As a Plant Shift Electrician, you will take on the critical responsibility of ensuring continuity, reliability, and safety across Mamatwan’s electrical infrastructure. Your technical expertise will support the plant’s day-to-day operations, helping maintain the electrical integrity of equipment that powers thousands of tonnes of production.
This position requires precision, accountability, and a relentless commitment to safe work practices. You will work across multiple electrical systems — from motors and transformers to switchgear and substations — gaining exposure to a dynamic production environment where every action contributes to operational excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – WHAT YOU WILL DO
Your responsibilities will span routine tasks, preventive maintenance activities, safety checks, troubleshooting, and repairs. You will ensure that all electrical systems perform consistently, safely, and efficiently.
Daily Purpose & Expectations
As an Artisan Electrician, you will:
Execute routine electrical maintenance to meet plant performance targets.
Install and repair electrical components according to job instructions.
Investigate abnormalities and perform corrective repairs to prevent downtime.
Execute all electrical tasks in line with the required operational safety standards.
Operate, test, and validate electrical equipment functionality within your assigned section.
Detailed Responsibilities Include:
- Pre-Work Preparation & Planning
Carefully interpret job cards, maintenance plans, and technical instructions.
Coordinate pre‐task planning to ensure all required tools, PPE, and safety permits are in place before work begins.
Participate in risk assessments and toolbox talks to promote a safe execution environment.
- Electrical Maintenance & Repairs
Perform routine, predictive, and preventive maintenance across multiple plant systems.
Troubleshoot faults using electrical diagrams, testing devices, and standard diagnostic procedures.
Complete repairs with accuracy, ensuring equipment is restored to full operational integrity.
Maintain proper documentation of all maintenance tasks for audit and compliance purposes.
- Electrical Systems & Equipment Operation
You may engage with:
Allen Bradley VSDs
Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear
Motors, transformers, liquid starters
Substations & MCC (Motor Control Centres)
VCB / SF6 switchgear
Safety circuits & plant automation infrastructure
- Safety & Compliance
Conduct daily equipment inspections and promptly report any safety hazards.
Adhere strictly to MHSA (Mine Health and Safety Act) standards and site-specific rules.
Maintain a clean and hazard-free working environment.
Demonstrate unwavering compliance with lock-out, permit-to-work, and isolation procedures.
- Teamwork, Reporting & Communication
Collaborate with artisans, technicians, production teams, and supervisors.
Provide precise feedback to your direct line supervisor after completing tasks.
Work independently during shift periods while maintaining full accountability.
Perform calmly under pressure during plant breakdowns or urgent repair scenarios.
ABOUT YOU – WHAT MAKES YOU THE RIGHT FIT?
You are a committed professional with a passion for electrical systems, plant machinery, and high-reliability operations. You bring hands-on experience, solid technical instincts, and a deep respect for safety-driven mining environments.
You have:
3+ years experience in electrical maintenance (mandatory).
Experience with fault finding on Allen Bradley VSDs (advantageous).
Knowledge of MV switchgear operations (advantageous).
Familiarity with plant equipment including substations, MCCs, transformers, motors, and safety circuits.
Awareness or experience with MHSA requirements.
Required Qualifications:
Grade 12 certificate
N3 Electrical certificate
Recognised Electrician Trade Test
Valid driver’s licence
