We are currently seeking a qualified and dedicated Fitter and Turner to join our Milling Division based in Pretoria West. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the efficiency, safety, and performance of our mechanical systems and production equipment.
⚙️ Job Purpose
The main purpose of this position is to perform routine and preventive maintenance on industrial machinery and production systems to ensure smooth operations, minimize downtime, and maintain high-quality output standards. You will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues, fabricating components, and ensuring compliance with safety and food manufacturing standards.
🧰 Key Responsibilities
As a Fitter and Turner, your daily duties will include:
Conducting preventive and predictive maintenance on machinery and mechanical systems.
Ensuring that equipment, conveyors, compressors, and motors operate efficiently.
Performing mechanical inspections and replacing worn components such as bearings, belts, filters, and shafts.
Diagnosing mechanical faults and ensuring timely repair of breakdowns to reduce production downtime.
Fabricating and machining replacement parts using lathes, milling machines, and welding tools.
Maintaining records of maintenance and repair work performed.
Collaborating with engineering and production teams to improve plant reliability.
Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and food safety regulations.
Training and mentoring apprentices and assisting junior maintenance personnel.
Performing standby and call-out duties when required.
Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized working environment at all times.
🎓 Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates should possess the following:
N3 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
Qualified Fitter and Turner Trade Test (recognized by the Department of Higher Education & Training).
At least 3-5 years of experience in an industrial or FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) environment.
Knowledge of Milling Machinery, Compressors, Pneumatic Systems, and Conveyor Belts.
Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
Experience in welding, cutting, and part fabrication.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work systematically and prioritize workload under pressure.
Strong attention to detail and analytical reporting skills.
Willingness to work shifts, standby, and overtime as required.
