The ideal candidate is someone who is hands-on, reliable, organised, and committed to upholding the company’s high operational and customer service standards.
This role goes far beyond basic warehouse duties. It requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to follow established procedures meticulously. As part of the Motus Aftermarket Parts division, you will join a reputable organisation that values teamwork, integrity, and excellent performance. This opportunity is perfect for an individual seeking to grow their career in a stable and well-structured automotive environment.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities
The General Worker position covers multiple operational areas, including binning, receiving, picking, scanner control, stock handling, and warehouse housekeeping. Each responsibility must be performed according to company policies, health and safety standards, and operational expectations.
- Binning & Receiving
This area focuses on the accurate sorting, storing, and documentation of incoming merchandise. Your responsibilities include:
Binning Duties
Accurate placement of stock:
Ensure that all incoming merchandise is properly binned according to the warehouse’s standard operating procedures. This includes transferring stock from bulk storage to pick locations in a timely and accurate manner.
Correct allocation of new products:
When new stock items arrive, you must ensure that they are assigned appropriate bin location numbers. Correct allocation helps prevent stock loss, improves picking efficiency, and maintains a smooth workflow.
Bin updates and reporting:
Any changes in bin locations or stock that needs relocation must be communicated to your superior immediately. After reporting, ensure that the updated locations are recorded in the system without errors.
Assistance with replenishment:
Support team members in replenishing items from bulk to pick-face locations to ensure high product availability and to prevent delays in order fulfillment.
Receiving Duties
Scrutinising incoming shipments:
All incoming goods must be received according to company standards. This includes checking for damages, verifying quantities, inspecting product codes, and ensuring that supplier documentation matches the physical stock.
Ensuring procedural compliance:
Accurate receiving ensures traceability and reduces discrepancies during stock takes. Always follow the standard procedures to ensure consistency and reliability.
- Picking Responsibilities
Order picking is central to warehouse operations and customer satisfaction. Your duties include:
Timely picking of orders:
Make sure all customer and internal branch orders are picked promptly to meet strict order cut-off times. Efficiency in this area supports the company’s commitment to timely deliveries.
Bulk location picking protocol:
Only pick from bulk storage when:
The pick-face location is empty,
Replenishment has not yet taken place, or
You are picking large bulk-size orders.
This helps preserve pack integrity and reduces the risk of damage.
Following instructions from superiors:
Carry out all reasonable, lawful instructions given by supervisors, managers, or team leads. This includes ad-hoc tasks, urgent operational assignments, or procedural changes introduced by management.
Customer satisfaction through accuracy:
Follow all relevant picking procedures carefully to avoid incorrect orders, missing items, or product mix-ups. Accuracy in picking contributes directly to customer satisfaction.
Assisting with stock take:
During scheduled stock takes and cycle counts:
Help physically count stock,
Identify bin discrepancies,
Report missing or damaged stock,
Ensure stock levels match the system.
Your participation ensures accurate inventory records.
Maintaining warehouse cleanliness:
Housekeeping must be performed daily. A clean and well-organised warehouse reduces hazards, improves efficiency, and supports smooth operations.
Performing double checks:
Double-checking items before dispatch helps prevent inventory loss, customer complaints, and financial discrepancies.
Meeting operational targets:
The company sets clear warehouse productivity and accuracy targets. Consistently achieving these ensures personal and operational success.
- Scanner Control
Scanning equipment is essential for tracking stock movement. As a General Worker, you may be responsible for managing barcode scanners daily.
Your duties include:
Issuing scanners daily:
Every operator must receive a scanner before the start of their shift. You must issue these devices fairly, efficiently, and in line with company procedures.
Booking scanners using the electronic application:
Record scanner allocations using the designated electronic system. This ensures traceability and helps prevent operational losses.
Receiving and inspecting scanners:
Before booking scanners back into stock:
Inspect for physical damage,
Check for battery issues,
Ensure the device is in good working condition.
Reporting damages:
If any scanner is damaged or malfunctioning, immediately report it to your supervisor so that repairs or replacements can be arranged.
Completing the daily scanner spreadsheet:
Every transaction—issuing, receiving, and inspection—must be accurately recorded in the spreadsheet. Consistency and accuracy here prevent losses and operational delays.
Additional Responsibilities
Although your main duties fall within the categories listed above, you may also be required to:
Assist fellow team members with urgent tasks,
Support supervisors during peak operational periods,
Follow all workplace health and safety regulations,
Report any hazards, risks, or unusual stock behaviour immediately,
Participate in ongoing training and skills development sessions provided by the company.

A foundational qualification that ensures you can handle workplace communication, basic calculations, and operational instructions.
Computer Literacy
Basic computer skills are required due to the use of electronic applications, scanning devices, stock management systems, and spreadsheets.
Honesty and Integrity
Because you will be working with valuable stock and company assets, trustworthiness is essential.
Good Communication Skills
Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, colleagues, and other branches within the organisation.
