Position Overview
As an Apprentice/Technician, your role is critical in ensuring the smooth operation and reliability of weighing systems and labeling equipment for our clients. You will be responsible for a wide range of technical and operational tasks, from installations to maintenance, repairs, and customer service.
This position offers hands-on experience and exposure to high-precision industrial technology, enabling you to develop technical proficiency and problem-solving skills that will serve you throughout your career.
Key Responsibilities
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Service Calls & Repairs
Attend to service calls as logged in the system, troubleshooting issues with weighing scales, label printers, and associated equipment.
Diagnose technical faults accurately and perform repairs in accordance with industry standards.
Document completed tasks and provide detailed reports to both the Branch and the Helpdesk.
- Verification & Quality Control
Act as an appointed Verification Officer, ensuring all scales are verified and sealed according to NRCS and SABS Quality System procedures.
Maintain compliance with SABS Quality Procedures, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and consistency across all service activities.
- Equipment Installation & Software Integration
Install and configure equipment and relevant software at new client sites.
Conduct operational testing to confirm equipment functionality and adherence to quality benchmarks.
- Preventative Maintenance
Perform six-monthly preventative maintenance on all service-contracted scales to minimize downtime and enhance equipment longevity.
Ensure that standard equipment is maintained as per Teraoka SA guidelines.
- Spare Parts Management
Identify and order spare parts as required, coordinating with the Service Manager to ensure timely availability.
Replace or repair components efficiently to minimize disruption to client operations.
- Customer Engagement & Sales Support
Maintain Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with corporate customers, ensuring timely and professional service.
Where possible, assist with the sale of labels and equipment, supporting business growth.
Serve as a point of contact for clients, ensuring excellent customer service and strong relationships.
- Reporting & Documentation
Maintain accurate records of service calls, equipment installations, maintenance schedules, and verification activities.
Submit reports to the Branch and Helpdesk, providing insights for operational improvements.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
We are looking for ambitious and technically inclined individuals who are ready to grow with us. The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:
Education:
Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science OR N3 qualification with Mathematics and Physical Science.
Age: 18 – 28 years.
Technical Skills:
Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
Familiarity with industrial equipment or desire to learn technical service operations.
Driving Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License.
Own reliable vehicle is essential due to the mobile nature of the role.
