🔧 Purpose of the Role
The Utilities Artisan will play a critical role in ensuring continuous plant efficiency by performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on all utilities systems.
You’ll keep key equipment — such as ammonia and freon refrigeration systems, boilers, air compressors, and electrical reticulation — in top working condition while ensuring full compliance with safety and environmental standards.
✅ Key Responsibilities
Daily Plant Inspections: Inspect condensers, plant rooms, valve stations, chillers, boilers, air compressors, and spiral freezers.
Preventative Maintenance: Execute scheduled maintenance tasks as per work orders and time allocations.
Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose faults, implement solutions, and restore uptime efficiently.
Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to OHS Act, SANS 10147, PPE use, and ammonia handling procedures.
Documentation: Maintain accurate maintenance logs, reports, and root cause analyses for all breakdowns.
Equipment Operation: Operate lifting machinery and specialized tools safely and effectively.
Quality Assurance: Uphold housekeeping, safety, and production quality standards.
Training & Mentorship: Support apprentices and junior assistants through technical guidance.
Emergency Readiness: Participate in safety training and emergency response programs (buddy-buddy system).
🎓 Minimum Requirements
–N3 qualification in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Refrigeration
–Recognized Trade Test Certificate
–Valid SAQCC Gas Registration
