🎯 Purpose of the Role
The core mission of the Packaging Artisan is to provide artisan-level skill, technical expertise, and operational support to ensure efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement within the packaging plant.
⚙️ Key Responsibilities
🔧 Operational Support
Provide expert technical support to shift-based teams during daily operations.
Guide and mentor operators on machine operation, troubleshooting, and fault diagnosis.
Support problem-solving initiatives and plant optimization trials.
Conduct operator and artisan skills assessments.
🛠️ Maintenance & Reliability
Participate in maintenance planning meetings and contribute improvement ideas.
Execute planned, preventative, and routine maintenance in line with schedules.
Report unresolved issues to the Maintenance Planner and ensure follow-up action.
Carry out lubrication, cleaning, inspection, and running repairs on equipment.
Complete all SAP and administrative tasks related to maintenance activities.
🔍 Problem-Solving & Analysis
Support team members in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Escalate major technical problems to the Engineering Controller.
Perform machine performance analysis to reduce downtime and losses.
🛡️ Safety & Housekeeping
Apply 5S principles and ensure compliance with all SAB safety policies.
Identify and report unsafe work practices.
Maintain high housekeeping and operational standards.
✅ Minimum Requirements
N3 Qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation (progression to N6 desirable).
Grade 12 (Matric).
Trade Tested Millwright (strong electrical bias).
2 years’ experience in a high-speed FMCG manufacturing environment.
Packaging industry experience – highly advantageous.
