Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Trainee Manager – Stores position is to develop competent and confident retail managers who understand the end-to-end operations of a Pick n Pay store.

Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
Matric / Grade 12 qualification, with a certified copy attached to the application
Sound numeracy skills, with the ability to work accurately with figures
A basic understanding of the retail industry and its operational demands
2–3 years of retail experience will be considered an added advantage
Ability to successfully complete all required assessments at the prescribed level
Successful participation in at least two competency-based interviews
Willingness to be flexible and mobile, including being transferred between stores when required
Willingness to provide authorization for full credit and criminal background checks
Possession of a valid South African ID, with a certified copy attached
Possession of a valid Code 08 driver’s license, with a certified copy attached

Key Responsibilities
The Trainee Manager – Stores will be responsible for supporting and learning all key aspects of store operations. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following areas:
Store Standards and Compliance
Ensuring that hygiene, housekeeping, and safe working standards are consistently maintained across the store, including sales floors and back-up areas
Adhering to and enforcing health and safety regulations
Ensuring that security procedures are followed to protect staff, customers, and company assets
Merchandising and Stock Control
Ensuring that merchandise and display standards meet company requirements
Conducting regular quality checks to ensure product freshness and compliance
Ensuring correct stock rotation in line with FIFO principles
Identifying and removing damaged or expired stock promptly
Implementing measures to prevent wastage, shrinkage, and damages
Ensuring accurate pricing and labelling of all products
Administration and Reporting
Completing all required administrative tasks accurately and on time
Maintaining up-to-date records and documentation
Analysing relevant operational information and taking corrective action when necessary
Sales and Customer Service
Supporting the planning and execution of sales promotions
Actively engaging with customers to understand their needs
Providing accurate product information and advice
Ensuring a consistently positive customer shopping experience
Financial Management
Monitoring departmental budgets and expenditure
Taking appropriate action to address variances
Analysing departmental profitability and identifying improvement opportunities

Stock Optimisation
Ensuring optimal stock levels through effective ordering
