ROLE PURPOSE
The primary purpose of the Electrician role is to ensure the effective installation, maintenance, repair, and inspection of electrical systems within client facilities. This includes both reactive and planned maintenance activities, carried out in strict compliance with statutory regulations, safety standards, and Tsebo policies.
The Electrician is responsible for minimising downtime, preventing electrical failures, and maintaining the integrity of electrical infrastructure to support uninterrupted operations at client sites. This role requires a proactive approach, strong technical expertise, and the ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary facilities management team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Electrical Maintenance and Repairs
Perform routine, planned, and reactive electrical maintenance on client premises.
Diagnose electrical faults efficiently and implement effective corrective actions.
Repair or replace faulty electrical components, wiring, switches, distribution boards, and lighting systems.
Conduct regular inspections of electrical installations to identify potential risks or failures.
Ensure electrical systems operate optimally and meet operational requirements at all times.
Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
Execute scheduled preventative maintenance in accordance with site maintenance plans.
Identify opportunities to improve system reliability and extend the lifespan of electrical assets.
Accurately complete PPM checklists, service reports, and maintenance documentation.
Report recurring faults or system inefficiencies to management with recommended solutions.
Compliance, Safety, and Risk Management
Ensure all electrical work complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), relevant SANS standards, and Tsebo safety procedures.
Conduct work in a manner that prioritises safety for yourself, colleagues, clients, and contractors.
Identify hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement appropriate control measures.
Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and compliance inspections as required.
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment at all times.
Tools, Equipment, and Materials Management
Ensure proper use, care, and storage of tools and electrical equipment.
Conduct regular inspections of tools to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose.
Manage electrical spares, consumables, and materials responsibly.
Report shortages, damaged tools, or equipment issues promptly.
Assist with sourcing and coordinating materials required for electrical tasks.
Supplier and Contractor Coordination
Liaise with suppliers to source electrical components and materials when required.
Work collaboratively with external contractors to ensure work is completed to Tsebo standards.
Monitor contractor performance and compliance with safety and quality requirements.
Assist in coordinating shutdowns, upgrades, or major electrical works with minimal disruption to operations.
Client Interaction and Service Delivery
Respond promptly and professionally to client requests and queries.
Communicate clearly regarding work progress, expected completion times, and potential disruptions.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients and site stakeholders.
Deliver consistently high levels of customer service in line with Tsebo’s service philosophy.
Represent Tsebo professionally at all times when interacting with clients and visitors.
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
Complete job cards, logbooks, and service reports in a timely and accurate manner.
Report faults, incidents, and non-conformances according to Tsebo procedures.
Provide feedback and technical input to supervisors and facilities managers as required.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of electrical systems, components, and installations in commercial and industrial environments.
Sound knowledge of electrical equipment, materials, and suppliers commonly used in facilities management.
Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing instruments.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and building layouts.
Experience with fault finding, diagnostics, and system troubleshooting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Matric / Grade 12 certificate (compulsory).
NQF Level 4 Electrical or relevant technical qualification.
Minimum of five (5) years’ proven electrical experience in a similar facilities management, commercial, or industrial environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of electrical systems, maintenance practices, and safety regulations.
Valid driver’s licence (advantageous, depending on site requirements).
WORKING CONDITIONS
The role is based in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, with work conducted at client sites.
May require working after hours, weekends, or on standby depending on operational needs.
Physical work may include standing for extended periods, working at heights, and operating tools and equipment.
Compliance with PPE and site-specific safety requirements is mandatory.
