Key Role Purpose
The Artisan Assistant (Mechanical) will assist the Artisan daily by:
Supporting maintenance duties,
Handling mechanical tools and equipment,
Executing operational and labour-intensive tasks,
Following instructions accurately and safely, and
Ensuring all work supports the continued efficiency of Rand Water’s operations.
This is a critical support role that ensures equipment is maintained, infrastructure remains operational, and teams can complete maintenance tasks with efficiency and safety.
✔ Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following:
Essential Qualifications
Grade 12 OR N3 in Mechanical Engineering
At least 12 months of experience in a mechanical or industrial environment
Added Advantages (Highly Beneficial)
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or any related field
Valid Driver’s License (Code 8 or 10)
🛠 Primary Duties and Responsibilities
As an Artisan Assistant (Mechanical), you will be responsible for supporting artisans in completing essential mechanical operations. Duties include but are not limited to:
Tool & Equipment Care
Maintain, clean, and store tools properly
Collect and return tools from the maintenance store
Ensure tools and materials are always accounted for
General Mechanical Support
Assist in drilling, grinding, lifting, holding, aligning, supporting, pushing, pulling, and other tasks within safe working limits
Perform painting, equipment preparation, and refurbishing tasks as required
Support artisans with mechanical maintenance tasks across the site
Housekeeping & Safety
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working area
Assist in erecting scaffolding and ladders when required
Follow all safety procedures and regulations at all times
Manual Labour & Operations Support
Perform digging and site preparation tasks
Assist in assembling and disassembling maintenance structures
Execute any reasonable instruction issued by supervisors or artisans
📚 Knowledge Required
Candidates must demonstrate:
Basic understanding of safety procedures
Ability to recognize mechanical tools and understand their functions
